This weekend, I had the chance to spend a full day at Larkhall Kart Track, hanging out with some of my teammates from Thistle Rose Racing (TRR). It was a great opportunity to soak in the atmosphere, watch the action up close, and learn more about the technical side of karting.
Behind the Scenes with TRR
Being part of TRR means more than just racing—it’s about teamwork, preparation, and constantly improving. I spent a lot of time around the karts, looking at how they were set up for the day’s conditions. From adjusting tire pressures to fine-tuning the engines, there’s a lot that goes into making sure each kart is performing at its best. Seeing the mechanics and drivers working together to make those small but crucial tweaks gave me a better understanding of what it takes to compete at a high level.
The Team Caravan: Where the Real Talk Happens
One of the best parts of the day was spending time in the team caravan, chatting with the other drivers about their experiences, strategies, and how their sessions were going. Everyone had different perspectives on the track—some were focusing on braking points, others on finding the best racing line. It was cool to hear what was working for different drivers and compare it to my own approach.
We also talked about future races, how the season is shaping up, and just karting in general. Whether it was sharing funny race stories or discussing what we’ve learned from past mistakes, it was great to be around people who are just as passionate about the sport as I am.
Lessons from the Track
Even though I wasn’t racing that day, I took away a lot just from observing and listening. The way a driver mentally prepares before heading out, how they analyze their performance after a session, and the constant drive to improve—it’s all part of what makes karting so exciting.
Spending the day at Larkhall with TRR reinforced why I love this sport. It’s not just about speed; it’s about the dedication, the people, and the little moments in between the racing that make it all worthwhile. I can’t wait to get back on track and put what I’ve learned into action!
