How Board Games Help Me Reset After Racing

Interview Series - Theo

After another Daniel Riccardo Series race weekend Buckmore I’m usually buzzing — win or lose. But when I need to reset and slow my brain down, I reach for board games. They’re my go-to for downtime, and weirdly, they actually make me a better racer.

My favourite game is 'Heat: Pedal to the Metal' — obviously. It’s all about racing, managing risks, and planning the perfect move.

"I also love strategic games like Go, Quoridor, and chess. They teach you how to think ahead, stay patient, and sometimes just defend when you can’t attack."

When I want something lighter, I play Monopoly (yes, we argue) or The Game of Life with family. 'Sky Team' is amazing because I’d actually love to fly planes for real one day.

"Board games keep my mind sharp for things like the Daniel Riccardo Series , where every tenth counts. "

You can read more about that championship in my other blog.

People think racing is just physical, it’s mental too. And board games help keep that side of my brain sharp when the helmet off.

Whether it’s planning my next move in Heat or outsmarting dad at Quoridor, it all adds up to how I drive on the track.

If you’re into racing, check out Heat. It’s the best tabletop way to experience a championship lap without needing a kart.
